Your final assessment involves a retrospective of the Pentagon Reconstruction project, which occurred after the events of 9/11. It’s one of my favorite parts of this course, and runs a bit personal since I grew up near the Pentagon (my mom was a switchboard operator there), I’ve had an assignment or two there and I visit it on a regular basis. I was actually there yesterday and walked around an entire floor taking in the history. So, this project in real life was a good example of a specialized project. The project (called the “Phoenix Project” for a reason) was a major rebuild of a section of the Pentagon impacted by the terrorist attack. The building was already in a major reconstruction effort where entire wedges were rebuilt to improve the workspace and bring a lot of the building up to code. I would suggest highlighting the procurement process that took place for this project (it took Congressional funding) and identify some of the many challenges the rebuild faced. There was, for example a lot of political and national attention on this entire effort). I would probably start with understanding how the Pentagon came to existence and the initial renovation project. A review of the building layout and the damaged areas would also be a help. It will help to then understand how the project was able to leverage a number of the processes gained from the renovation project (much of the documentation was already in existence, for example). It was definitely a one-off project for a one-of-a-kind building. Please be sure to stay within the formatting requirements and at 6-8 pages. |
