1.) Locate and then send me an example of 1) a leadership association, 2) trade association, and 3) a specialized association. All three must have a chapter or be located in New Jersey AND must not be on the lists provided above. In other words, do some research about NJ and locate some business associations that I’ll be able to add to the lists which do NOT duplicate what is already on the lists. Include for each of the three you will send me: location (address if available), website address (URL) and e-mail and/or phone number. 2.) NJ and describe their general mission/purpose and provide their location (address if available), website address (URL) and e-mail and/or phone number. Then describe any public policy/political issues with which they are/were concerned and also any related lobbying/advocacy activities. Then gather numerical/data about them such as data about membership size, budget, political campaign contributions, public opinion data about their concerns and any other data you can access. Summarize that data in some tables and/or charts. For example, provide a chart showing membership size for each of several years. That chart should visibly show how membersship is increasing and/or decreasing over a period of time. Another example would be a chart showing the dollar amounts of political contributions over a number of years. [Again, be sure to select a business associations and not a specific company nor an organization which isn’t about business. For example, the National Education Association (NEA) is NOT acceptable because it is NOT focused on business.] In order to gather the information needed to successfully complete this activity there are many alternative ways to proceed. Depending upon the associations you selected, some or all of these sources may be useful or not useful: a) association’s webpage; b) Opensecrets.org; c) Federal Election Commission website; d) Foundation tax returns – http://foundationcenter.org/find-funding/990-finder, e) non=profit tax returns – https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/; f) search on NJ politics and newspaper websites; g) google search about political activities or lobbying with the association’s name. Include all your sources in your response.
