For this assignment, I want you to create a presentation using PowerPoint or Google Slides. Choose one of the following poems or short stories for your presentation: “The Cask of Amontillado” (pg. 249) by Edgar Allan Poe “Two Kinds” (pg. 471) by Amy Tan “I Stand Here Ironing” (pg. 217) by Tillie Olsen “Miss Brill” (pg. 166) by Katherine Mansfield “The Girl with Bangs” (pg. 187) by Zadie Smith “Araby” (pg. 288) by James Joyce “This is What it Means to Say Phoenix, Arizona” (pg. 205) by Sherman Alexie “A Rose for Emily” (pg. 143) by William Faulkner Read through your chosen story, research the author, and create a slideshow with a minimum of four slides. Each slide needs to include one of these points: Title slide with a listing of the sources that were used to put together the presentation You are welcome to either list the sources or include pictures as I did on my presentations. Biography of the author: since I am not limiting how many students can cover each story, we will want to try to avoid overlapping information. I do want some information that will obviously be duplicated, but I also want you to research the author with your own interests in mind. The bio needs to include: Birth and death (if applicable) dates of the author (some of the authors are still living) Three details you found interesting about the author’s life Include a picture of the author Literary Criticism – limited to Psychoanalytic, Feminist, Marxist or New Historicism; choose the criticism you are most comfortable using with the story you have chosen. Briefly (3-5 sentences) include an analysis of how this criticism can be used to understand a specific theme of the story. Provide three quotes from the story that can be used to help support the criticism being used. Include in-text citations (last name of the author and page number). Include a minimum of two pictures to help make this slide more interesting. Reader Response Criticism: share your own personal opinion of the story. Briefly (3-5 sentences) discuss what stood out to you in this story and why. You might focus on a character, the setting, the plot, the conflict, the narrator, etc. Provide three quotes from the story that stood out to you; these quotes must be three totally different ones from the quotes in item 3. Include in-text citations. Include a minimum of two pictures to make this slide more interesting. Be sure to include pictures on each slide as I have done with my presentations. You need a minimum of three sources for this presentation. One of those sources needs to be the story itself.
