Welcome to the Week 3 discussion board! This week I’ve asked you to consider the role of narrative structure in creative nonfiction. According to Stephen King, “An opening line should invite the reader to begin the story. It should say: Listen. Come in here. You want to know about this.” Choose one of the assigned essays from this week’s readings and analyze its opening and closing. What do you notice? How do the opening and closing serve as a frame for the essay? What stands out to you as particularly noteworthy about the essay’s structure? How, if at all, might the assigned essays impact decisions about the narrative structure of your own personal essay? Please note that the above questions are intended as a jumping off point. You do not need to answer them all. * Since I’d like you to focus on participating in the writing workshop this week, you are only required to write one post this week. The week 3 discussion board is worth 50 rather than 100 points.
