| Research Problem and Context Statement Purpose: Not all problems are created equally. There are some that are too large for the scope of a single class, while there are others that are too local and narrow. A “good” problem is one that people care about there being a solution for. There should be a sense of exigency that a solution needs to be found. Good problems are multi-layered and have no easy solution. Conversely, for the scope of our class good problems are ones that can be mostly solved or at least alleviated within the Final Capstone essay. Instructions: To the end of analyzing whether or not your problem is appropriate as one to investigate for the Final Capstone Essay, please answer the following questions (double-spaced response, 12-font, Times New Roman):1. Describe a problem in the industry that you are working in (healthcare) 2. What is the general context of the problem? What is the extent of the problem? 3. What do people think and how do they feel about the problem in society at large? What do public surveys and opinion polls reveal on the topic? For example, the Pew Research Center is a great source for public attitudes on many issues, or the Statistical Abstract of the United States for data on various features of American society. 4. Who are the people affected? 5. Besides the people directly affected who else is a stakeholder in solving the issue? 6. What are some solutions that have been attempted? 7. Why is this a problem that needs to be solved? What will happen if it is not solved? 8. List one source that you are using to examine the context of the problem here. How do you intend to use the source to give the reader context for the problem? |
