Choose an item that you already love and use; then prepare a speech in which you “sell” the item or product (CD, book, movie, idea) to the class. Make us want to go out and buy this item. Include all the main steps in the process, making use of any relevant props or visual aids. Requirements Your speech should be approximately 2 – 3 minutes in length Structure your points: Intro/Body/Conclusion Pay close attention to the introduction and how you open your speech. Get the listeners’ attention, and identify the product clearly. Structure the body of your speech by building interest and excitement in the product. Offer testimonies and examples of people who have used the product and swear by it. Pay close attention to the conclusion. Offer the listeners ways to buy or order (call to action), and ways to follow-up. Practice the speech at home to see if it is developed enough. Use an outline to structure your ideas and thoughts rather than read word for word. Note the technical requirements listed below: Students can create videos of their speeches, using a webcam, phone or tablet, or even many cameras. Save it as a .wmv file, or a .mov file. Students can then post the file on the discussion board. If the phone or tablet produces HD video files, students will have to convert it to SD (Standard Definition). There are a number of free programs out there which will allow students to do this. Windows usually bundles “Moviemaker” as part of its software. Many students have used this program – but they should be sure to attach the whole moviemaker “package”, not just the playlist to the discussion board, or other students will not be able to view it once it is posted.
