Students will submit a written report on their selected individual topic using TurnItIn via Canvas. This scholarly paper will be assessed and graded on both the quality of the content (the student communicates in a clear and concise way what is important in the assignment) and on the quality of the composition (grammar, word usage, organization, etc.). See rubric below. The paper should be between 5-7 pages, double-spaced, APA or MLA, 12 pt. Times New Roman, 1-inch margins on all sides. The assignment is a paper about an important contemporary topic written for an informed audience. You should address the question below, making a strong argument on behalf of your thesis and developing your own conclusion based on evidence from sources. In doing so, you must use a minimum of three references (1) from the syllabus’ bibliography or other academic area (i.e. eText, ProQuest, etc.) Extra research beyond the specified readings will help the quality of your paper significantly. Due April 11th 2020 Feel free to utilize the (7) prompts listed below as a guideline if needed. You may not need to incorporate of all them – this just may assist you in gathering data/information and writing your case analysis/paper. I choose to write about the Al-Qaeda group 1. What is the history and identity of this group/coalition from its own? perspective? From the perspective of others in that country and region? What cumulative or cross-cutting cleavages exist? Have issues of group/coalition membership and/or identity played roles in initiating the violence? If so, how? 2. What are the main political/social/economic issues involved with the origin/continuation violence? Structural factors? How has the personality and worldview of major leaders on either side affected the conflict? 3. Who supports this group/coalition domestically? Internationally? What kind of support is offered? 4. How has the use of violence affected this group/coalition’s overall agenda / socio-economic status / political future (if applicable, assuming there is some agenda outside of violence)? 5. How has the violence affected the country domestically? Internationally? 6. Why does the violence continue? What peace efforts have been made, if any / failed? 7. What does the future look like for this group/coalition and country, in terms of stability? |
